The Bishop of Coventry - Rt Revd Sophie Rebecca Jelley

The Right Reverend Sophie Rebecca Jelley, Bishop of Coventry, is a distinguished senior leader in the Church of England with a profound commitment to education and governance. With a wealth of experience spanning multiple levels of the education sector, she has played a pivotal role in shaping educational policy and practice. For five years, Bishop Sophie served as Chair of the Board of Education in the Diocese of Sheffield, overseeing strategic leadership and development within Church of England schools. During this time, she was also an active member of two Multi-Academy Trusts (MATs), contributing to their governance and long-term vision. Her particular passion lies in Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), where she has worked to support young learners in their formative years. Additionally, her expertise extends to working with Looked After Children (LAC), advocating for their educational and pastoral needs. While much of her experience has been rooted in Church of England schools, Bishop Sophie has also engaged extensively with community schools and the independent sector, fostering collaboration across different educational landscapes. Her leadership reflects a deep dedication to ensuring that education is inclusive, high-quality, and accessible to all children, regardless of background.

David Bermingham

David has worked for over 35 years in the transport and logistics industry and has held senior leadership roles, Managing Director and CEO, within PLC, private equity backed and not for profit organisations. He has led several business turnarounds, managed large scale M&A integrations and has successfully developed businesses year on year. David is now focused on applying his experience in a more support and advisory capacity and brings with him extensive experience in strategic planning, commercial and change management. David has a Combined Honours degree from the University of Aston in Transport Planning & Operation and Political Studies and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT).

Diocesan Representative - Carolyn Shoyer

Carolyn is Interim Diocesan Director of Education for Coventry Diocese, working strategically with schools, churches and partners to support Church schools and their communities. Alongside her role in Coventry, Carolyn is Diocesan Director of Education for the Diocese of Leicester, where she leads the work of the Diocesan Board of Education. She brings significant experience of education leadership, governance and partnership working, including working with Local Authorities, the Department for Education and the Church of England Education Office. Carolyn has also previously served as Director of Education for the Diocese of Derby and brings a strong commitment to supporting flourishing, inclusive school communities.
